PostSubject: Takara/Tomy Arts Venomous Spiders Set   Mon Sep 20, 2010 10:30 am

hey all,

I just received the venomous spiders set from Takara-Tomy Arts. With all the insects put out by the Japanese maufacturers, it is nice to finally see some arachnids made. They hold up to the usual quality from our Japanese colleagues. I am most excited for the club spider, Chiracanthium japonicum as it is the first member I have of the family, Clubionidae. The color on the eastern black widow (Latrodectus mactans) is a bit odd, too. The most perplexing member is the wolf spider, Lycosa tarantula. This species is not venomous, although historically in Europe it was considered venomous, so it may have been added for historical purposes.

I have not yet had the chance to take pictures, so here is the pic from the eBay seller's site:

Blaine, great set congratulations!!! I love spiders and my father 's thesis was on spiders , he has even discovered a new species back in the 70 's.

Just and FYI, all spiders are venomous, it is just that in most species the venom does not effect either humans or they are not strong enough to puncture the skin. Still, I know either what you mean by including the wolf spider , I do not think it fits in with the rest of the group.
